I'm leaving on a ... turboprop?
I definitely had the best costume this year I have ever had. The concept wasn't original, but the performance is a whole 'nother story. If I still had my WPI webspace I'd post some pics. For now, I'll just send them out to people here and there.
Anyway, I'm trying like hell to get home for Thanksgiving, and conventional tix are too expensive now. At first, I was just gonna stay here, but now I really got a burning to return.
A friend at work pointed me to priceline.com. Apparently, they have this feature where you name your own price for a flight, it gets thrown out to a pool of partner airlines, and if your bid is accepted, you gotta pay and take it - on their terms though. That's the catch. First off, you can't pick a flight time. You choose a departure date and return date, and you are promised to leave between 6 am and 10 pm on those days, but to arrive no later than 12 am the next day. Ok. That's fine. Next? You don't fly on a conventional jet, but rather a turboprop - one of those small planes with a propeller that holds like 30 people max. The next thing is that you don't really know if you're bidding high enough, so how are you to know what's a decent bid?
This idea is appealing to me, because my only other option is a 200 RT bus ride that will be 12+ hours each way. That will only work if I ride at night and can sleep, but still.
Has anyone ever done this before or known someone that has? I'm tempted to put up a price and see if that goes through, cause I'm not gonna buy bus tix till it's closer to Thanksgiving (when they get cheaper), but I just have no clue what a decent price to offer on a RT ticket on a byplane with the given conditions!
Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.
